Eyeless in Gaza...Once again!

Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit.

A murderous storm passes over and shakes the homes of Gaza,
The child huddles in the corner,
Hiccups of fear at every thud of a mortar,
every incendiary flash
Every rocket tearing into the heart of the city.

 Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit

Our concerned leaders are making Herculean efforts,
 The Blairs, the Sarkozys, the Condoleezza Rices;
We are so near to a solution….
But there remains so much to be done.

 Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit.

There remains so much to be done
LIAR BLAIR!
The child no longer huddles in the corner,
She is dripping blood and flesh running off the walls Of the ruins of Gaza City

 Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit.

We are so near to a solution….
LIAR SARKOZY!
The child no longer huddles in the corner,
She is the charred cinders rising into the sky Over Gaza City.

 Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit.

We are in the final phases of an agreement,
LIAR CONDOLEEZZA RICE!
The child no longer huddles in the corner,
She is a heap of mangled remains In the morgues of Gaza City.

 Eyeless in Gaza,
The deaf look on
With the blank gaze Of diplomatic deceit.

The vengeful Samson stands once again
Over the smouldering ruins of Gaza City.
Eyeless, deaf and dumb,
Together with our concerned leaders
We have reached our solution!

  6. But surely that is a limerick isn’t it Mr. Anonym? You are lacking a line somewhere, possibly the one that would give it meaning over that of the brainless urge to ridicule the suffering of others.

It is a sad fact of life with the right, and their knee-jerk hatred of the left, that they hold the moral low ground.

The left has an open and honourable stated goal: to make the world a better place for all, equality, and to every woman/man the fulfilment of their needs.

The right has greed and individual betterment to the cost of their peers.

But their dilemma is to be able to defend a so squalid and morally depraved position. They must therefore try to convince us that their egoistic greed is somehow able to transform itself into something honourable. An incredible feat of intellectual(less) gymnastics.

They also have the need to portray the left as utopic, naïve and unrealistic.

But as I look over this barren wasteland of neoliberal economic disaster, it is difficult to not fall into spasms of uncontrollable laughter: utopic, naïve and unrealistic?! With their invisible hands (caught stealing from the pockets of the most needy and the homeless), their dribble down theories (drying out into the glove compartments of the Mercedes and BMWs of the property speculators) and their three centuries old delusion of individual greed leading to the betterment of all (all that is except for the two thirds of the population of this planet living in dire poverty!).

  7. How is Chavez paying for his "21st century socialism" these days ? Printing money ?

"The right has greed and individual betterment to the cost of their peers."

Why is individual betterment a cost to others ? This is where you are naive, utopic and unrealistic. The 2/3 poorest people today live in the most socialistic (=least capitalism) countries of the world.

Spare us for your pity, for you have blood on your hands.

  8. Four to five million killed in Vietnam, the initial spread and bombing of the US imperial war into Cambodia and Laos killed as many as Pol Pot, who was incidentally supported by the capitalist west, including Norway, for many years after the Vietnamese drove him out.
The Genocide in Indonesia in 1965, and the support of capitalist “democrats” like Pinochet, Stroesner, Vidella, Somoza (you remember; “He’s a son of a bitch, but he’s our son of a bitch!”) in Latin America, leading to the torture, death and disappearance of further hundreds of thousands…….And I’ve got blood on MY hands!!!!!

And no Mr.Anonym, Chávez is paying for the redistribution of benefits to all Venezuelas’ population; health, education, vocational training and nutritional programs, with the same money that Norway uses to save the capitalist and speculative Norwegian banking system from it’s own greed instigated demise…..OIL, the stuff the USA is willing to slaughter hundreds of thousands of men, women and children in the Middle East to ensure it maintains control of.

Mr. Anonym, you’re even worse at history than you are at poetry!

  9. You do not want to compete in the contest of defending killing through socialist ideology; Stalin, Hitler, Mao were all socialist fascists (which is a redundancy, akin to saying stupid idiot), and the list is long and awful.

In addition, billions live daily in poverty aggrevated by socialism throughout the world; there is a clear positive correlation (and cause-effect) between laissez faire and wealth. And the opposite is also true; the more socialist regimes with absence of deregulation and individual rights create poverty and squander resources. Peopledie and are thrown in jail.

All of this is well known. You choose to ignore this and need to hide the blood dripping from your hands.

My alternative is 100 % laissez-faire, with the state acting solely as protector of individual rights. There can be no Sharia in my world. Your world allows Sharia as long as no one is allowed to get rewarded for being smart (you didn't tell me why personal betterment is a threat to others).

    SvarSlett
  10. First, I did not say personal betterment was a threat to others, so I need not explain why. I said the Right had greed and individual betterment to the COST of their peers, meaning that that greed leads to the detrimental living conditions of those that are exploited in the process of achieving it.
Personal betterment is not an issue here. How many millions of Venezuelans have achieved personal betterment since Chávez took over in 1999? The eradication of illiteracy, and thousands of youth from the poor barrios getting paid to go to universities and get a higher education that many in even the USA could only dream of.

Secondly, to bring up the usual idiotic rightwing arguments of Stalin, Mao and, god forbid, the crème de la crème of right-wingers, Hitler, as a defence for laissez faire, neoliberal capitalism is a banal and over simplistic red herring. What in this world has a Chinese or a Soviet dictator form the last century to do with working towards a more just and equitable society in the 21 century! Are you serious? Is for example Torstein Dahle going to lead a long march from Bergen to Oslo and surround the cities from the countryside?! It is empty, windbag rhetoric!

It’s like the ingenious cretins who compare living standards in Cuba with those in Norway to try show what a failure the Cuban experiment has been, instead of comparing with countries having the same economies, productivity and trade patterns as a starting point, such as Honduras, El Salvador, Haiti or the Dominican Republic.

Third, your statement that “there is a clear positive correlation (and cause-effect) between laissez faire and wealth” as usual lacks a subordinate clause; “for the few!” The exploitative equation doesn’t add up, wealth is not created out of thin air. The excessive incomes of the property speculators come at a cost for thousands of others, foreclosures on homes, lost savings and pensions… Why the hell do you think we have these idiotic financial crises every 20 to 30 years? The system is unsustainable. Even the showcase examples like Argentina and Bolivia came tumbling down like a pack of playing cards. You look just like the pathetic idiot you are, standing on the threshold of one of the deepest recessions in living memory and shouting “more of the same!”

And where Sharia law comes into it only your perverse imagination can explain.

To finish, why on earth would you of all people, Mr. Anonym, support a system that rewards people for being smart? Because in such a system you would without doubt be on a minimum wage!

  11. "Why the hell do you think we have these idiotic financial crises every 20 to 30 years? The system is unsustainable."

It's not capitalism, but an unfortunate blend including lots and lots of regulation from benvolent politicians. Printing money out of thin air is called "soft landing", whereas this only make the next bubble worse. Capitalism prescribes a "hard landing", more saving, less governemnt and more production & trade.

"It’s like the ingenious cretins who compare living standards in Cuba with those in Norway to try show what a failure the Cuban experiment has been, instead of comparing with countries having the same economies, productivity and trade patterns as a starting point, such as Honduras, El Salvador, Haiti or the Dominican Republic."

Were they really that different at the time of the revolution ? By the way, why do cuba-lovers blame their misfortune on the blocade from US, when their very ideology predicts that trade does nothing to improve conditions ?

Chavez throwing oil money after any good cause that could secure him a re-election is not necessarily a proof of health. Corrected for the oil money, has Chavez positioned the economy to provide for it's citizens ? Nope. They are worse off. Given a bigger share of a smaller pie.

What is right-wing (=anti-socialist ?? free market ?) about NSDAP nad Hitler's politics ? Please enlighten me.

"The exploitative equation doesn’t add up, wealth is not created out of thin air."
Exploitation ? Why do you bring that up ? The ABSOULUT level of living is raised for all, that is a statistic fact. You object to this because you have a problem with the RELATIVE level which may very well worsen for many..

Sharia. The organization you supprot (HAMAS)stands for such a fascistic apporach to law & order that I would never give them any right to rule. The freer state has rights, simply because it's citizens are "free".

Thanks for the insults though, it fits nicely with the calm demonstrations outside the israel embassy

  12. “Thanks for the insults though, it fits nicely with the calm demonstrations outside the israel embassy.”
Well Mr.Anonym, if you come waltzing onto my blogsite with your’ condescending insults and abusive attitude to other peoples suffering, you must surely expect to have it returned in equal measure?

What a shame for you that 30 years of nearly total neoliberal, laissez-faire economic experimentation has led to such an abysmal result. But ah, Mr.Anonym informs us, its not because of its’ own inbuilt defects, it’s because the REAL WORLD doesn’t fit in with the theory. The experiment didn’t work because there was a leak in the vacuum in the test tube. By some weird misfortune the vacuum was infected with something inconvenient called REALTY. There were real people there, millions, no billions of them! And they wouldn’t do what the theory expected them to do! They didn’t believe that your greed would answer their need! (ooh there’s a rhyming two liner, I can use in my next poem!).
Naïve? Utopic? Go back to NHH!

“Chavez throwing oil money after any good cause that could secure him a re-election is not necessarily a proof of health.”
And the laissez-faire opposition in the last presidential elections, offering a credit card to the population worth two times the minimum wage every month, that they could draw out from cash points which they promised to set up in all the poor Barrios?

What would you call that Mr. Anonym? Responsible use of diminishing resources? At least Chávez is investing in the future by promoting higher education and general awareness in the population. The laissez-fairers will invest in GREED, what a dire future utopia you wish upon us!
By the way if the opposition in Venezuela did win, you could emigrate there and be guaranteed two minimum wages in a system that rewards people for being smart!

    “The organization you supprot (HAMAS)”
Well finally Mr.Anonym concern for the suffering victims of a criminal act of barbarism is not equivalent to supporting fundamentalist religious fanatics. Read the rest of my blog and you will see clearly where I stand on all forms of religious obfuscation.

Yesterday Israel’s President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Simon Perez, said the following:
“Our aim was to provide a strong blow to the people in Gaza so that they would lose their appetite to continue to shoot at us, that’s it.” Note carefully: “the people in Gaza” and “that’s it.”
I’m pretty sure that the 15-year-old kid operated by the new Norwegian doctor in Gaza yesterday and amputated both legs high up at the hip and one arm, has completely lost his appetite. The poor bastard won’t even be able to hold a knife and fork.

I wouldn't even wish that on you Mr. Anonym!

  13. "condescending insults and abusive attitude to other peoples suffering,"

Maybe that was some other "Mr anonym" ? My point was merely that the socialist support of Gaza is blown out of proportions, to say the least. I have not heard anything about Congo in weeks. But Hamas is an extremely fascistic movement, yet this is where you "demand peace". I find this brainless since palestinians are to blame themselves. Again socialists pick the strangest of bedfellows.

"30 years of nearly total neoliberal, laissez-faire economic experimentation "

This is so far fram reality that I wonder if you know the first thing about capitalism. If the lack of 100% regulation and socialism is what you call a neo-liberal laissez-faire experiment, then so be it. We have a looong way to go.

"What would you call that Mr. Anonym? Responsible use of diminishing resources?"
It is generally a better idea to give money back to the citizens than to increase the administrations' power base. The government should be minimized, hence it sounds like a good start. People could then "choose" how to use their money (instead of Chavez choosing for them).

"By the way if the opposition in Venezuela did win, you could emigrate there and be guaranteed two minimum wages in a system that rewards people for being smart!"

Whereas Chavez pays you one minimum wage no matter what ?

"Well finally Mr.Anonym concern for the suffering victims of a criminal act of barbarism is not equivalent to supporting fundamentalist religious fanatics. Read the rest of my blog and you will see clearly where I stand on all forms of religious obfuscation."

The people have elected Hamas. Hamas can not be surprised by Israeli retaliation. Hamas wants to implement SHaria. My support lies elsewhere.

"Our aim was to provide a strong blow to the people in Gaza so that they would lose their appetite to continue to shoot at us, that’s it.” "

And I would expect no less of my own country, if it could not guarantee my safety from Qassam rockets. The palestinian people are not in a position to wish for war. They should seek a peaceful solution, and not pursue a strategy that can lead nowhere.

Well in future could you please identify yourselves as “Anonym 1”, “Anonym 2 “ or something more exiting like “Son of Anonym”.

Quote: “This is so far fram reality that I wonder if you know the first thing about capitalism. If the lack of 100% regulation and socialism is what you call a neo-liberal laissez-faire experiment, then so be it. We have a looong way to go.”

Yes! an incredibly looong way to go, and that’s before you even get out of the test tube stage!
Meanwhile real people, in the real world, being subjugated to your experiments are waking up every day with empty stomachs and wondering where their next meal is coming from. Whilst a little minority who are being rewarded for their callous greediness (not smartness Mr. Anonym, smart people don’t instigate economic disaster!) live lives of overabundant, wasteful and immoral luxury!

And if you can’t see the promise of two minimum wages for nothing, to a relatively poor third world populace in the run up to an election, as a desperate and cynical populist attempt to garner votes, then I really don’t know what planet you come from Mr. Anonym 1, 2 or whatever!

And as for NSDAP; support for the big bourgeoisie industrialists and crushing of the German trade union movement, and the hundreds of thousands of socialists, and Marxists who accompanied the Jews into the concentration camps and gas chambers; well I think their right wing credentials speak for themselves? Exempt of course on the planet where you come from

  16. "NSDAP": Crushing of rivals (marxists) did not make them the opposite, NSDAP were merely socialists with a different touch (corporatism). All power with the state, industry got a sense of freedom as long as they accepted this. It probably seemed right-extreme to Stalin and marxists, but it was nevertheless socialism.

And it was faaaar away from laissez-faire or capitalism.

Then again, that goes for today's global system as well...

In fact, Hitler lost the war, but his corporatism prevailed..

    SvarSlett
  17. C’mon pleeease! Hitler and co were not just right wing, they were extreme right wing, hence the term extreme right wingers to describe todays neo-nazis (and I can’t remember anyone here claiming they were laissez-faire, just your imagination), no amount of pseudo-intellectual gymnastics can alter that!
    Dave

  18. Fine, call it what you wish. That explains why you think today's economic (western) system i extreme-right too. There are lots of similiarities between the two and I like neither.

Just don't call any of them laissez-faire.
